Where to Turn for Help
Across the nation, a network of compassionate community-based rape crisis centers and local organizations stands ready to support those who have experienced sexual assault. These centers are located throughout the United States, offering vital support services to survivors of sexual assault.
While the specific services provided may differ somewhat depending on the location, these services are always confidential and often include:
- Dedicated advocacy to ensure your voice is heard
- Supportive accompaniment during medical exams and interviews with law enforcement
- Empowering education to help you understand your options
- Caring follow-up services to ensure your ongoing well-being
- Thoughtful referrals to other helpful resources
Every state and territory also has a designated organization committed to coordinating resources and representing and advocating for survivors within that state or territory.
The National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) offers a comprehensive directory of organizations, including state and territory sexual assault coalitions, victim/survivor support organizations, and local communities of color sexual assault organizations. You can connect with your state or territory’s coalition to discover local resources that can provide personalized support to survivors in your community. You can also find a rape crisis center or sexual assault program near you by exploring RALIANCE’s directory of local programs.
The Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network (RAINN) organizes and operates the National Sexual Assault Telephone Hotline, a lifeline for those seeking help. The Hotline provides compassionate referrals, connecting you with your local rape crisis center. You can reach the Hotline by calling 1-800-656-4673, or through RAINN’s confidential online chat service.
